The archaeological site

The tower in question, known among locals as the "Saracen Tower" or the "Bacoli Lighthouse Tower," is believed by some to have been the base of a Roman lighthouse, known as the Miseno Lighthouse, which later sank due to the bradyseismic phenomena that affect the Phlegraean Coast.

The tower is approximately fourteen meters high, on a seabed ranging from nineteen to twenty-seven meters deep; it was built in opus pilarum, with sections in opus reticulatum and brickwork. The tower is the largest construction of its kind in the gulf. At its base, on its eastern side, a local artist placed a marble nativity scene at a depth of approximately twenty meters. Within fin-reach of the tower lies a small fiberglass boat, which has been taken over by the local fauna. Groupers, conger eels, and moray eels are frequent sightings in the tower's vertical crevices, and from March onward, numerous small lobsters emerge from the crevices. This dive site is renowned for its great biodiversity and unique ecosystem.

The tower is also located just a few meters from the remains of a Roman-era residential villa, likely owned by Hortenzio.
